Looking To begin your tabla journey?

Tabla is a beautiful and elegant instrument of the Hindustani (Northern Indian) tradition. It is also easily one of the hardest percussive instruments in the world to play. That’s why it can be hard to know where to start, how to begin, and what path to take. That’s why Nik has developed a simple and straightforward curriculum for beginner Tabla students of all backgrounds. If you’re excited to learn Tabla but are overwhelmed on where to begin, then look no further.

Since Sept 2019 Nik has been studying Tabla and the rhythmic tradition of Northern India, and has had the benefit of study of Tabla and Dhama under Aminah Chishti Ji (disciple of Ustad Dildar Hussain) in the Punjabi Guarana, and guidance and instruction in Tabla by Bhai Happy Singh Ji of the Punjabi Guarana in the lineage of Ustad Alla Rakha. Nik has has had over 20 years of live performance, touring, recording and songwriting and has been teaching music for over 10 years. His experience in learning this art form as a Westerner brings a unique perspective to Tabla and Hindustani music in general.
